Dumisani Maraire was a brilliant Shona musician who played the marimba and the nyunga-nyunga mbira. Dumi had strong ties to the Pacific Northwest where he taught at the university of Washington in Seattle. Such marimba bands as Balafon, Anzanga, Boka, Shumba, and Musasa began because of Dumi's influence.
